Screw Bell Conversion: The bell and bell tail are removed from the valve section. The bell is rounded at the throat when necessary (as many horns have elliptical bells). Houghton Horns recommends the Alexander type ring because it is most universal. UMI (Conn), Yamaha and Paxman rings are also available. The lower half of the ring is fitted to the bell flare, and a precision cut is made. The top half of the ring is then fitted to the bell tail with the flare in place to insure proper alignment. Reassembly, polishing and lacquering (when applicable) is done at this time.
Why cut your Bell?
- The bell ring reinforces the weakest area of your bell throat and helps to prevent damage to your flare.
- The convenience of carrying your horn in a lightweight case as carry-on luggage.
- The versatility of using various bell flares to create different tonal effects and colors.
